There's a moment when you realise a destination has delivered something truly special.
For our group of 11 UK travel professionals, there were several.
It might have been arriving by boat at OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort, surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs and turquoise waters. Perhaps it was kayaking across Cheow Lan Lake, with nothing but the sounds of the rainforest around us. Or simply witnessing the genuine warmth of a resort team going out of their way to make a guest's birthday unforgettable.
These are the experiences that stay with you long after a journey ends.
In October 2026, Eastern Favourites Representation brought together 11 UK travel professionals for a Southern Thailand FAM trip, exploring Phuket, Phi Phi Island, Khao Lak and Khao Sok National Park.
With Virgin Atlantic's direct London Heathrow–Phuket service providing a convenient gateway to the region, our aim was to showcase the diversity of Southern Thailand and demonstrate how easily luxury, adventure and authentic experiences can be combined into one remarkable itinerary.
What we discovered was a destination that offers something for almost every type of traveller.
Phuket: One Island, Many Different Experiences
Our journey began in Phuket, where we explored just how different one resort experience can be from another.
At OZO Phuket, we experienced a contemporary, easy-going property that works particularly well for families and couples looking for a convenient base near Kata Beach.
Amari Phuket presented another side of the island, with its hillside setting, sweeping ocean views and access to the energy of Patong.
Then there was OUTRIGGER Surin Beach Resort, which introduced the group to a more intimate, boutique-style experience. Its design, atmosphere and location near beautiful Surin Beach make it especially appealing for couples seeking a relaxed yet sophisticated Phuket escape.
Beyond the resorts, Phuket's local culture, food and coastal scenery reminded us that the island is much more than a collection of beaches.
For travel agents, understanding these contrasts is essential. Phuket can suit very different clients, provided the resort and location are carefully matched to their expectations.

OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort: Where Hospitality Becomes the Highlight
There are some places where the journey to the resort is part of the experience itself.
Our arrival at OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort was one of those moments.

Travelling across the Andaman Sea, surrounded by towering limestone formations and brilliant turquoise waters, the excitement among the group was impossible to miss.
But as spectacular as the setting was, it was the hospitality that made the greatest impression.
General Manager Chris Long personally welcomed the agents and remained actively involved throughout our stay. He spent time getting to know everyone, joined us for dinner and shared his enthusiasm for the resort in a way that felt completely genuine.
His approachable personality and passion for the property were so well received that several agents even included him in interviews and podcasts recorded during their time on the island.
And then there was the food.
Executive Chef Satya Beeknoo and his team delivered exceptional dining experiences, but one particular encounter summed up the resort's approach to hospitality.
During our stay, we witnessed a guest warmly thanking Chef Satya for the birthday dinner he had prepared the previous evening. The guest was still talking about how special the experience had been.
It was a simple, unscripted moment, but one that said more about the resort than any marketing brochure could.
For our group, OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort became the standout resort experience of the entire trip.
And it's easy to understand why.
The resort combines the secluded tropical atmosphere often associated with destinations such as the Maldives with the warmth of Thai hospitality and the opportunity to explore so much more of Southern Thailand.
For clients looking for something exclusive, memorable and genuinely personal, it offers a compelling proposition.

Khao Lak: Space, Serenity and a Slower Pace
After the excitement of the islands, our journey continued towards Khao Lak, offering another perspective on Southern Thailand.
Before heading north, we visited Kalima Resort & Spa Phuket, where the resort's distinctive architecture, elevated setting and design-led approach showcased another dimension of Phuket's luxury accommodation offering.
We then continued to Kalima Resort & Villas Khao Lak, where expansive grounds, impressive facilities and a relaxed atmosphere demonstrated why Khao Lak appeals to travellers looking for a quieter coastal escape.
What struck me was how naturally the region lends itself to combining relaxation with exploration.
Khao Lak isn't simply somewhere to unwind. It's also an excellent gateway to some of Thailand's most remarkable natural experiences.
And our next stop was about to take us somewhere completely different.
Elephant Hills: Discovering the Luxury of Disconnecting
If Phi Phi Island demonstrated the power of exceptional hospitality, Elephant Hills reminded us of the extraordinary value of simply being immersed in nature.
Our three-day jungle and lake safari took us deep into the landscapes of Khao Sok National Park.
We learned about elephants through a responsible, non-riding experience, explored the rainforest and travelled across the spectacular waters of Cheow Lan Lake.
But it was our time at the floating Rainforest Camp that created some of the most memorable moments.
Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and lush jungle, we found ourselves in a place where the outside world suddenly felt very far away.
With limited connectivity, there were no constant notifications, emails or distractions.
Instead, we spent our time kayaking, enjoying the scenery, sharing conversations and appreciating the remarkable natural environment around us.
For travel professionals accustomed to busy schedules and constant communication, it was a refreshing reminder that sometimes the greatest luxury is the opportunity to disconnect.
And for clients, that's an increasingly compelling reason to travel.
Elephant Hills provides a completely different experience from a traditional resort stay, yet fits beautifully into a Southern Thailand itinerary.
OUTRIGGER Khao Lak Beach Resort: A Beautiful Way to Finish
After three days immersed in nature, our final resort stay at OUTRIGGER Khao Lak Beach Resort offered the perfect transition back to coastal relaxation.
With its beachfront location, tropical surroundings and welcoming atmosphere, the resort provided a wonderful setting to reflect on everything we had experienced.
It also reinforced one of the strongest messages of the trip: Southern Thailand is particularly well suited to multi-centre holidays.
Travellers can combine a vibrant Phuket stay with a secluded island escape, enjoy an immersive jungle adventure and finish with a few days of beachfront relaxation.
Each experience feels completely different, yet they complement one another beautifully.
Why Southern Thailand Should Be on Every Travel Agent's Radar
One of the most rewarding aspects of leading a FAM trip is seeing travel professionals discover experiences they can't wait to recommend to their clients.
Throughout our journey, the conversations were filled with ideas about which clients would love each resort, how the different destinations could be combined and what made individual experiences stand out.
For those who love the tropical beauty of the Maldives or Mauritius, Southern Thailand offers another attractive possibility: spectacular island scenery and luxury accommodation combined with culture, rainforest adventures, wildlife experiences and a wider choice of holiday styles.
It isn't about replacing those destinations. It's about offering clients another way to experience tropical luxury.
And with direct flights between London Heathrow and Phuket, the region is particularly appealing for UK travellers.
